Amy Skogerson

Amy sincerely focuses on the thoughts and feelings of everyone in her life: family, friends, clients and colleagues. The proof is in the many client/colleague relationships that have grown into friendships.

Amy is constantly in motion – working on fun projects and traveling with her husband, Erik (by car, motorcycle, Airstream, or airplane as student pilots), volunteering at the Des Moines YMCA Camp, hosting parties at the family vineyard, or participating in professional organizations and events that promote peace and understanding in the practice of law.

Andrea McGinn

From the moment you step into her office, Andrea greets you with respect and a smile. She wants to hear your story and guide you through your legal proceedings with compassion and knowledge, so you can come out on the other side feeling heard and ready to take on the next chapter in your life.

Andrea grew up in Runnells, Iowa, on the family farm. She now resides in Pleasant Hill with her husband, Nick, their son, Nolan, and their two dogs: Leonidus (Leo), a Bulldog, and Ellie, a Lab mix. When Andrea isn’t in the office, she is enjoying the company of family and friends, traveling, or floating on a boat at their family lake house in Missouri.

“When I came to Amy her law partner described her as ‘smart and ethical.’ To that, now, I would have to add some additional things. First, she has a spirit of fun that was really nice to have along the way. It extends from her sense of humor to her love of ‘artsy and weird.’ Most important, though, I would add that she has a genuine spirit of humanness. She helped me stay (get back) on an even keel and do the right thing that I really wanted to do all along. With her straightforward tact and sympathetic understanding and knowledge she was able to ease my ‘scares’ and concerns. She displayed humor, honesty, dignity, humility and compassion during the whole ordeal. Once again my most sincere thanks and I thank Amy for being a ‘friend’ through it all.  She beautifully handled my case not once but twice and is now my dear friend.  I will forever cherish our friendship.” - Debbie
"In 2015 we started the journey to become foster parents. We had 3 biological daughters, but foster care was tugging on our heart strings. We completed all the paperwork & classes in the summer of 2016 & had two babies placed in our home in August that year. Our hearts doubled in size as we became a family of 7. Foster Care is an emotional roller coaster, there’s really no other way to put it, and in 2019 we were approved to adopt. Thanks to the recommendation of a friend we found The Law Shop! They were wonderful to work with, very efficient, quick, and understanding. The Law Shop helped us become a Forever Family & for that I am Forever grateful!" – Shantelle
"In the spring of 2024 I once again found myself calling upon Amy to kindly hold my hand through a divorce - one that I never saw coming. This moment was traumatic for me, but Amy made it one of the easiest legal processes I have ever experienced. Everything was under control in the incredibly capable hands of her and the staff of the Law Shop. I cannot recommend The Law Shop highly enough - frankly there aren't words that match the gratitude and love I have for everyone who works there. If you want to feel cared for, heard, and valued then this is very much the place for you. The Law Shop understands that you exist outside of what has happened to you in your life, and will help you to navigate the situation in order to get you to the other side."
– Kelly
“I have known Amy J. Skogerson for many years. Over my many years of being in practice, I have found that lawyers who are successful are those who have earned the respect of their colleagues. Amy has achieved that lofty goal. She has earned the respect of her colleagues.”  - Patrick L. Wilson, Attorney, Des Moines, Iowa
