James G Rowe

James joined The Law Shop family of legal professionals in early 2022, however he has been practicing law since 2005. James’ unique style of legal representation includes making sure your story is heard, being a straight shooter about the strengths and weaknesses of your legal matter, and providing solid counsel in helping you move forward. He truly cares about the lives and well-being of his clients on a personal level, which is reflected in the way he sincerely treats each of them as valuable individuals.

James was born and raised in central Iowa. After graduating in the top 10% of his class at Grandview College in Des Moines, he worked in the corporate arena for several years before he and his wife Anna decided it was time for their family to hit the beach! With their two young sons in tow, they moved to Virginia Beach, Virginia, where James could further his education at Regent University School of Law. James’ most memorable law school experience was a criminal law internship within the Civil Rights Division of the U.S. Department of Justice in Washington, D.C.

James and Anna have now been married for over 24 years. Their children include: Hunter, a teacher at Southeast Warren Community Schools; Justice, an engineering student at Purdue University; Grace, a high school student; and Lilly, also a high school student. James and Anna also enjoy a number of furry family members, including dogs Moses, Bosko, and Haven, as well as Firebird (the gecko), and finally Skip (the goat) – an occasional houseguest from the local Future Farmers of America organization. It’s a busy household to say the least, but they wouldn’t have it any other way!

James has enjoyed a diverse law practice over the years both in terms of geography and subject matter. He has experience in family and juvenile matters, criminal, real estate, estate planning, and municipal representation. James is also a certified mediator, having served as an Instructor at the University of the West Indies in Belize, Central America, teaching the very first class of certified mediators for the Supreme Court’s mandated mediation program. James and Anna lived in Belize to help a local ministry in establishing a safe haven for victims of sex-trafficking from around the world. James and his family returned to the United States and settled in Warren County, Iowa, in 2013. They love being close to their family and friends in the area and James loves the opportunity to work in both rural and urban areas within his law practice.

"Working with Amy was wonderful!  Her advice and support gave me the courage to live life again.  I was content with the way things were, but after talking to Amy and going through the process, I can LIVE LIFE TO THE FULLEST!!  Thank you!!" - Cindy
When I got married I never imagined that I would be divorced, but I think that's true of most people. 17 years later, I was a nervous wreck walking into Amy's office. She greeted me with a warm hug. After my nerves were settled, and I had told my story, she took my hand and said that it was time for me to stop taking care of someone who needed to start taking care of himself. I felt safe, and I felt ready. My divorce journey was not as difficult as it could have been, but there were some uphill climbs that I had to take, and Amy was right there with me. Always with advice, always with a kind word, and always with a feeling of positivity. I cannot imagine having anyone else represent me or my family. To work with Amy, is to work with more than just a legal representative. I could provide some small similes in order to really hit home with how pivotal she has been (and to utilize that English Master's degree I'm still paying for) and say: Amy is like a light house during a storm, she is the smell of your favorite cookies baking at your grandma's house , and can be thought of as steaming cup of hot chocolate that awaits you after you've been sledding all day. All true. Simply put, Amy helped my four children and I navigate a very difficult time, and begin our new life as a happy family of five We now live without being afraid, and enjoy every single day that is ahead of us. Amy helped us to get there.” – Kelly
“Skogerson Law provides friendly, fast service! I was more than satisfied with the results of my custody modification and always felt like my case was at the top of the to do list. There is no question that I will use Skogerson Law for any future needs!” - Jessica
"I have referred Amy to literally every person I know who is adopting (I think I'm at 3 and running!) and there is a reason for that!  Amy truly makes us feel like she cares about helping our family grow, and the best part is that I know it isn't an act - it is clear that she loves what she does and helping children find their forever families!” ~Elizabeth Skurdal
